Swim Coaching:

Michael Jones - Full swim coaching and strength & conditioning

Robin coached me for three years whilst I was a student at Kelly College. During this time I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute of working with him. His experience, expertise, enthusiasm, drive and passion for helping people achieve their best cannot be questioned. Even with the five o’clock starts he always remained cheerful and somehow managed to crack a joke and make me smile. Robin is not afraid of telling someone when they’re not training properly but does it in a manner that motivates and builds your confidence rather than knocking it down. Both in the pool and the gym Robin pushed me and challenged me beyond what I’ve ever experienced.

I endured a significant set back and had to take time out of the water due to having a major operation on my leg. Throughout the entire time Robin was always there for me. If I needed to talk he was there or if I needed assistance he was always willing to help. This really helped me remain positive when at times I felt frustrated and low mentally. When I returned to training he adapted it specifically and wrote a program designed purely for me which looking back on was the turning point. I am pleased to say that thanks to his hard work, patience and care, it all paid off with me setting a new British record in the 100m backstroke, winning two National medals and rising to fourth in the world rankings for the 400m freestyle. I couldn’t have believed this was possible post surgery.

Matthew Courtis - Full swim coaching and strength & conditioning
I trained under Robin’s guidance for four years both in swimming and gym training. My gains of speed and strength in the water were fantastic and I also developed a better physique of greater muscle mass and tone. Not only this but I was educated on professional gym etiquette and the use of specific and correct technique, which I will continue to use. Breaking down mental barriers was key to fuelling my drive and determination and Robin was outstanding at helping me do this. I transferred the skills he taught me over to my academic studies, being accepted and achieving a place at Oxford university whilst competing internationally and being on a full time swim and gym program. Most of all I enjoyed working with a professional and truly knowledgeable Olympian who I can call a coach and a friend.

I was able to swim and love water but I knew my efficiency was minimal so I enrolled the help of Robin to make those lengths as effortless and enjoyable as possible. Despite my fitness and energy being low due to having had two children in the past 3 years, Robin managed to inspire and tutor me so well that my progress was swift and lessons were hugely enjoyable. When I am swimming in the sea at the age of 70 with my two boys, I will have Robin to thank for all the fun I will be having.

I have always wanted to learn how to swim, but didn’t have the courage to start due to a childhood accident in the water giving me a lot of fear. Finally I plucked up the courage to take up swimming lessons, and I made the right decision. Robin is a great teacher; he is very patient and always encouraging, with a perfect mix of humour, rigour and reassurance. I have done only 8 lessons so far and not only have I learnt to conquer my fear and learned how to trust the water and myself, but also been able to swim breaststroke efficiently and I’m absolutely enjoying it. Now I am looking forward to doing more lessons with Robin, and going on to learn more advanced strokes.

Martin Wright - Fitness and beach body

Robin took me through two periodised training programs over the duration of a year. The first brought me back to a good-level of fitness after a break from sport and the second built up muscle mass and the best definition I’ve ever had – just as I’d requested. Part of the problem with gym training is boredom, and it was an appreciable feature of his programs that they were both challenging and fun so that boredom didn’t set in. I really appreciated being able to rely on him for support not only in the gym, but also for out-of-hours advice to keep me motivated and question him on the theory as well as the practice of building fitness and muscle. Looking forward to going to the next level!

Pardy Dhillon - Fitness and event specific fitness and conditioning

I’d wanted to do the Bath Half Marathon for a number of years and finally decided to go for it this year. I initially worried that I’d set myself a goal far beyond me and doubted my physical and mental aptitude needed to run 13 miles consistently. It’s safe to say my confidence wasn’t very high!

My pessimism was laid to rest straight away during my initial consultation with Robin. He allowed me to speak in confidence about my concerns and ask questions about how to take on this challenge. His friendliness and clear knowledge on how he wanted to tackle things enabled me to establish a clear trust and bond with him. My confidence and motivation were reinstalled and my approach to the marathon took on an entirely new perspective from this point.

I undertook a detailed 16 week training program incorporating specific running sessions and additional gym work to help prevent injury and strengthen key areas which were lacking. As a teacher my schedule isn’t easy and what was really encouraging was the way in which my regime was completely tailored to suit my lifestyle, which made me feel in control. In addition, Robin prescribed me a specific diet plan, which really helped my energy levels.

Since successfully completing the Bath Half (in just over 2 hours) I’ve sat back, reflected and really appreciated the importance of working alongside such a professional. It’s been a pleasure. Thank you!

Stephane Darc - Fitness and Bodybuilding

I have really enjoyed being trained by Robin. My first goal was fully achieved, its aim being to make me fit again and then we really took it a step further with a more specific second round targeting all the muscles I wanted to increase. I’ve been going to the gym for just over a year now and had a set regime, which I was comfortable with and thought was of some benefit. I decided to have a one to one session’s with Robin to experience something new and see what else could be done. Right from the beginning Robin showed a key interest in helping me achieve what I wanted. I was taken through my paces, made to feel comfortable with the exercises I was doing and pushed to my limit!
